Magazine Front Cover Final

Magazine Creation

This is my original sketch design for my front cover, I particularly like the title design and the layout but I thought for the images taken of my band that it was a nessecity to alter the layout slightly from my original design. Another thing i figured could be altered was the design at the left hand side I wanted my magazine to look more authentic and a little bit for rugged than day to day magazines.

After much deliberation I decided to actually scan my masthead design into Photoshop CS3 and tweak it slightly to make it look that little bit more authentic. I had a few idea's what too do with it to make it look that little bit better and to help it blend and look part of the magazine as a whole.

I cut out the whole text using the magic wand and grab tool, located to the left in photoshop, I also then filled each letter and the back design in using the fill and brush tool, after all that was done it was time too add a filter effect.
I landed on using the rough pastles effect as well as a slight over lay of the fine pen finish, this both helped my masthead to blend in with the magazine as a whole, as well as aiding in making it have a personal touch. Another thing I had struggled with was deciding on a background for my magazine, as I was searching around my room i found some art work that I had done for my last years coursework, I felt this fitted the style and audience very well

Obviously after scanning this peice of work in I realised that colour wise it could do with a few tweaks as decided to alter it too give that more dark rugged look for my target audience.

I finally finished tweaking it and for this i used a low negative of the image whilst i accentuated the key colours to bring it out ever so slightly, i also applied a slight grandient in the top left cornor to help my Masthead stand out that little bit more. After that all there was left to do was bring it all together taking the images I took for my band as well as inserting the text needed.
I hightened the lightening on the lead singer David to bring him more to the front of the magazine allowing people to see what an important front man he is in the whole mechanics on the band. I feel using all the components I had the magazine front cover turned out very well.

Audience research & Questionnaire

As you can see all people surveyed tend too buy magazines monthly as well as coming it at a price range of around £2 - £5, although due too the lack of people filling in the survey I opted for another approach, I would go out and qualitatively face too face survey of a sample of 20 people, and ask 3 simple questions.
1. Do you buy magazines monthly?
2. If you had to listen to either rock or pop music what would you pick?
3. Do you consider yourself in the common trend?
After analysising the results 16 / 20 people agreed to buying a magazine at least once a month giving a large 80%
Another unexpected 14 / 20 people said they would listen too rock music rather than pop giving another 70%
and finally i asked if you would consider yourself in the common trend and surprisingly only 3 / 20 people agreed giving a completely unexpected
15%
